I heard about Speed Cycling and made it to a workout in their opening week. I met Casey, Petra and Gordy and quickly learned that they knew what they were doing and were awesome at it. I made it when I could over the winter, and was a regular at Gordy’s Sunday 2 hr-ride. Speed Cycling and their coaches really helped me over the winter by providing focused trainer sessions and keeping it fun! There is a huge difference between just getting on your bike and riding on the trainer or, like at speed cycling, where you have intervals and goals for each workout. It was also helpful to have a group to workout with, especially on those really dark, snowy days when motivation is low. I could always count on finding some good music and people ready to work hard at SPEED.
The work paid off. All of the hard trainer hours over the winter helped me to get my best Ironman result earlier this month at Ironman St. George (in St. George, UT). I did this race last year and in comparing, I cut over 20 minutes off my bike split despite the much hotter conditions. The faster bike split combined with an overall best performance to help me finish in 10:06, which was good enough for 2nd place overall female pro.
